Title: LINGUISTIC BARRIERS IN ENGINEERING COMMUNICATION

Abstract: Being able to communicate effectively is regarded as one of the most important life skills to acquire. Having good communication skills helps in all aspects of life – from personal to professional life. Poor communication in the workplace can lead to misunderstandings, frustration, confusion as well as to a tense environment which does not encourage employees to be productive and open to collaboration. Besides solid technical knowledge, engineering employers attach a lot of importance to strong communication skills which are becoming imperative as the enginering industry continues to evolve. Unfortunately, there is evidence that most graduate engineers lack the communication skills they need in the workplace. An employer who sees improving communication skills as a top priority and invests time and effort in reaching this objective is an asset to any organisation.

Title: REMEDIATION OF THE WRITTEN WORD: THE USE OF FRENCH PREPOSITIONS IN THE WRITTEN PRODUCTIONS OF FLE LEARNERS IN ALGERIA

Abstract: Native language (Arabic language) is the first language (L1) that the Algerian child learns from his parents and at school. The feeling of mastery and ease of this language leads to a certain feeling of linguistic and emotional security in the learners. On the contrary, in other foreign languages, as is the case with the French language, some Algerian learners tend to find themselves in stressful situations facing more complex problems taking as an example the use of French prepositions in writing. Thus, the teaching of the Arabic language allows FFL learners complete mastery of written and oral expression. This teaching, which is a very important factor, participates in the development of their personalities, but it must equip them with a basic linguistic instrument to penetrate the other different disciplines including the learning of foreign languages.

Title: LITERARY EDUCATION IN THE CONTEXT OF THE REFORM OF THE LMD SYSTEM IN ALGERIA

Abstract: The aim of this article is to analyze how the teaching of literature is conceived under the university reform of the Bachelor-Master-Doctorate (LMD) system in Algeria with first-year undergraduate students. At the same time, we want to find out whether teachers pay more attention to the development of Algerian students’ literary competence. Our research is based on a qualitative analysis, based on a descriptive cross-sectional design. In the first part, we present a brief overview of the situation of Spanish language and literature teaching in Algeria under the two systems: the classical system and the LMD system and in the second part we present the methodology of our work based on the description and analysis of the syllabuses of the subject « Initiation to literary texts ».

Title: NEW TREND IN FRENCH FOREIGN LANGUAGE DIDACTIC: CONSTRAINTS AND CHALLENGES IN THE ANGOLAN CONTEXT

Abstract: The present study is part of the teaching-learning field of Foreign Languages in the Angolan context, whose aim is to describe the new trend in French Didactics, constraints, and challenges in the Angolan education system. However, the approach to this theme implies re-examining the methodologies that marked the course of Didactics itself, relating them to the pedagogical practices of French teachers in Angola. This is descriptive and explanatory research and theoretically we rely on Claude Germain (1993), Maria Marques (1990), HoniQotb (2009), Vera Maria Candau (2010) and Sousa and Cardoso (2011). The empirical methods used allowed the characterization of the target audience, through the analysis of the governing documents of the education and teaching system and the application of data collection instruments. This research presents partial results of 250 learners of French as a foreign language for specific purposes in the provinces of Benguela, Cabinda, Huila and Luanda.

Title: SURVERYS ON THE ACQUISITION OF THE FRENCH IN ALGERIAN ENVIRONMENT: PARENTAL PROFILE, MOTIVATIONS AND STRATEGIES ADOPTED

Abstract: We wonder in the context of this study, which is part of sociodidactic field, about the contribution of the family into the acquisition of French in two children with notable skills in French language. However, these children come from distinct family  environments: the parents of family 01 have very limited skills in French, while the parents of family 02 have a notable skills in this language. This state of affairs led us to wonder about the sociolinguitics profiles of parents, the motivations and the means adopted in the process of transmitting French to their children.

Title: ALGERIAN FIFT GRADE PRIMARY SCHOOL  LANGUAGE TEXTBOOKS AND PREPARATION FOR WRITTEN PRODUCTION : THE TRANSFER FROM ARABIC TO FRENCH

Abstract: The current study endeavours to submit for analysis the conception and articulation modes of the activity/process of preparation for the written production in the Algerian Arabic and French language textbooks of the fifth year of the primary education. In fact, the two linguistic components constitute, in the Algerian educational system, one of the fundamental elements of the predominantly linguistic cognitive foundation. Bloom’s taxonomy regarding cognitive categories for the study of this activity/process has made it possible to highlight dysfunctions in cognitive transfer opérations between the two languages.

Title: CORRELATION OF FACTORS INFLUENCING CHINESE STUDENTS’ UNDERSTANDING OF LECTURES IN FRANCE

Abstract: In this study, a DANP approach to multi-criteria decision making is applied using the DEMATEL (Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory Model) technique, which is integrated into the ANP (Analytic Network Process) to know the links between the factors influencing the understanding of French university courses of Chinese students and thus to find the order of importance and weighting of the predominant factors and criteria associates. This is the first time that this DANP approach has been integrated into the teaching of the French Foreign Language (FLE). Thus, it can be seen that teacher strongly influence the other two factors; this result stands out from the other studies carried out on the subject.

Title: AN APPROACH TO ORGANIZING GROUP DISCUSSIONS IN EFL LEARNING

Abstract: The paper aims to present group discussions as an efficient means for raising the students’ motivation level and increasing their involvement in the language learning process. Problem-solving discussion is a task-based activity viewed as a structural language endeavor, which leads to a range of outcomes for those undertaking the task. An organizational framework plays the key role for determining successful discussions. There are procedural steps of the group discussion sessions: the chairperson is chosen; the teacher selects the discussion topics; after formulating solutions, the chairperson directs the students to give an oral summary of the discussion proceedings; the teacher acts as a language consultant. Taking into consideration the students’ individual needs, we may use some techniques in order to deal with the uncooperative students.

Title: REMARKS ON TEACHING PREPOSITIONS IN ESP COURSES

Abstract: The article aims at emphasising the importance of prepositions in language learning and teaching. Identifying the relationship the preposition can establish with other parts and units of speech represent a difficulty for non-native learners of English. During ESP courses, the teacher should focus on examining prepositions in context and explaining the use of prepositions to learners to help them avoid errors in speaking or writing. Due to poor knowledge of the English language or to the mother tongue’s influence during the language acquisition process, non-native learners of English might be unaware of the mistakes they make as regards the use of prepositions.

Title: PODCASTS AS A TEACHING MATERIAL POTENTIALS AND POSSIBLE USE DURING PANDEMIC

Abstract: The consequences of the Corona wave have left in the last two years 2020/2021 their mark on foreign language teaching and learning. With the corona pandemic, not only protective measures should be taken for schools and higher education, but other teaching alternatives should be found such as hybrid learning in order to keep learners up to date. One of these alternatives is the use of Podcasts in foreign language as a teaching and learning medium. In this article, the term Podcasts will be defined in relation to foreign language learning, then their potentials and possible uses as new learning media will be discussed. Finally, we give an overview of various podcasts, which can be used by our colleagues in their own courses in German.

Title: IMPOSSIBLE INVESTIGATIONS: A POSSIBLE WAY TO LEARN ORAL AND SPECIAL LANGUAGE AT UNIVERSITY

Abstract: This article deals with the use of the authentic audiovisual document, Les Enquêtes Impossibles, with a view to promoting oral competence and learning the specialty language by French undergraduate students. Indeed, we conducted an experiment to see the contribution of this document to the development of the linguistic skills of these students. The results of the study show us that the use of the authentic document allows the simultaneous work of language and culture with the opportunity to acquire the special language of a given field. This document also stimulates students’ motivation and their involvement in their learning.

Title: ETHOS, AN INCLUSIVE STRATEGY AT THE SERVICE OF POLITICAL DISCOURSE

Abstract: In recent years, political discourse, in particular diplomatic discourse, has increasingly fueled research in language sciences. From this perspective, Algerian-French relations, through their common past and the development of their exchanges in the aftermath of independence, is proving to be fertile ground in the field of discursive analysis. This article addresses the notion of ethos in political discourse of a diplomatic nature via a political address delivered during an official visit by Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika to France in 2000. It is very important in this study to consider the context of this speech. To this end, recourse to the prior image of Algerian-French relations as well as that of the political speaker is essential given that the primary ambition of a Head of State, setting out a political speech, is to build a self-image that meets the expectations of the audience. This analysis involves going through the different discursive strategies implemented by the political speaker in anticipation of building a discursive ethos that would guarantee the credibility and effectiveness of his speech.

Title: ANIMAL REFERENCES IN FRENCH AND ROMANIAN MEDIA DISCOURSE

Abtract: This article aims to emphasize that metaphor is not an accidental occurrence in many press articles or radio shows. On the contrary, it is a figure of speech frequently used in conveying some particular messages. However, the frequency of these metaphors may create risks as well, resulting in linguistic clichés or a certain vulgarization of the discourse. The group of metaphors that we intend to highlight belongs to the field of zoology, because their frequency can be explained by making reference to the immediate social reality. Our study will also analyze the strong cultural component of these figures of speech.

Title: A PATH OF INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATION BETWEEN THE CINEMA AND THE THEATER EXPERIENCED AT ANNABA UNIVERSITY: A CASE STUDY

Abstract: The following article illustrates an intercultural communication course tested in Algeria, at the Italian studies section of the University of Annaba, during the 2018-2019 academic year where a Club was open to students and teachers, and where moments of “sociality” in Italian took place. During Club meetings, through cinema, theater and activities of all kinds, an Italian-Algerian “product” was created. The idea for the project was born from the observation of a lack of both cultural stimuli and moments of meeting and educational and intercultural dialogue in the context considered. The case study focused on the analysis of the aforementioned deficiency, which arose through the use of various research tools, and on a cultural project born in response to the needs that emerged. Thanks to an action research journey, some of the objectives identified have been achieved, in particular the reduction of the distance between the participants of the Italian Club and the opening of the Faculty of Letters, Human and Social Sciences of Annaba to the outside.

Title: THE AÏN BASE AND ITS CHARACTERISTICS IN THE OFFICIAL TOPONYMY: THE NAMES OF THE COMMUNES OF ALGERIA

Abstract: This contribution tries to respond to the issue of the official name of municipalities. We have chosen to work on the Aïn base and its characterizers in order to identify the semantic categories to which they belong, through the languages implemented in their constitution and the grammatical categories of these constituents. The distinction between toponyms made up of the same components was at the heart of our analysis to know by what processes this is achieved. A number of six processes were used to distinguish toponyms having the same character. We therefore have the lengthening, the addition of a defined determinant, the use of different linguistic varieties, the graphic variation, the use of different grammatical categories concerning words of the same family and finally paronymy.

A host country considered, for all the femalecharacters of the work, as a source of invaluablefreedom. It ispainted as the opposite of the original land synonymous of all hostilities. This space, whichrepresents a part of a Western covetedsinceearlychildhood, becomes the « paradise » rediscovered to use the expression of the narrator of My Men. Our workconsists of an analysis of the underpinments of the will of the femalecharacters to turn to an elsewheredreamed and consideredbetterthantheir native environment.

Title: THE WASTE LAND AS MAGIC INCANTATION

Abstract: This paper demonstrates that T.S. Eliot’s Waste Land is a magic incantation to restore the lost values of the Western culture on realistic foundations. The poem’s intertextuality, together with its versification are analyzed in order to show Eliot’s view on Western man’s history: one of sin, fall and increasing decay. The main argument is that, through his poem, Eliot is attempting to restore humanity and its destiny away from the sad history in which it was cast from the beginning.
